hey! i'm Sam.

i currently attend the university of illinois in chicago and study computer science and chemistry.

when i'm not in school or working on projects, i love to spend time outdoors backpacking, climbing, and camping. this past summer, my partner and i backpacked the porcupine moutains in michigan!

i also love to cook and bake and am interested in all things food science. one of the coolest (imo) things i've worked on in this respect is characterizing the aromatic compounds of different coffee origins using gas chromatography-mass spec as a part of my instrumental analysis course at uic.

i love learning about computer systems and networking and am currently working on a packet sanitizer kernel module in Rust as part of my honors capstone at uic (think senior thesis). check out my other projects here.

i've recently been interested in all things self-hosting and have been working on a home server to take care of automatic backups, provide dns-based ad blocking on my local wifi, and run a jellyfin server.
